While one can trace mankind’s love for a sweet tooth back to ancient civilizations, we have the French to thank for desserts as we know it today. As far back as the 17th century, the French offered sweet small bites between courses during formal meals, but eventually added a final course to allow for larger dishes that stand on their own. Fast-forward to the present day, and desserts have practically become an art form.
